“Come Play with Us” a student project in creative story boarding
West Feliciana High School advanced art students, under the instruction of teacher Killian Williams-Morantine, recently created, wrote, produced and distributed “Come Play With Us,” a video about St. Francisville, for a contest inspired by May’s National Tourism Week.
At 1 minute, 48 seconds, the video promotes West Feliciana Parish tourism and is centered around the idea that St. Francisville has something to offer everyone, a news release said.
“Making the video utilized the diversified skills of all the students,” Williams-Morantine said. “Using traditional art processes such as hand drawings and sketches, which were coupled with the students’ skills in storytelling and the use of new software, we learned what it took to develop, design and implement a working commercial for advertising purposes.”
Williams-Morantine also sought the aid of comic book artist Kody Chamberlain, who helped teach how ideas become tangible working products, and BCKSTRY, a Lafayette nonprofit that assisted the high school group in combining the various media into an industry format.
The West Feliciana Parish Tourist Commission invited the students to celebrate National Tourism Week at an awards reception in May that coincided with Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser’s visit to St. Francisville on behalf of the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism. The students won a pizza party for their efforts.
